Sweden is in stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model. Back in the early-mid 1700s, Sweden was in stage 1 since the birth and death rates were both high. Since there is very good sanitation and healthcare in Sweden today, that explains why the death rate is low and because Scandinavia has some of the best education systems in the world, that also explains why the birth rate is low as well. During the mid 1800s and early 1900s, the Industrial Revolution allowed more work opportunities for many Europeans which is why the Demographic Transition Model shows an increase in birth rates during that area but because of hazardous work spaces and the economy not improving much after the start of the Industrial Revolution, the birth rates began to decline along with the death rate.

The Amazing Race
![Picture](/uploads/9/2/3/6/92365300/published/amazin-race.png?250)
*This race will be a dog-sled relay race in middle January from the city Ume(a^o) to Saevar Sweden.
*This race will be a Detour since both members of a team will have to compete together.
~ Step 1: Any European team members (of 2) will travel (with 10 dogs) to a somewhat large city in Sweden called Ume(a^o) (on the central and east side of Sweden (a couple miles away from the sea that separates Sweden and Finland)). Once every team makes it to the city, the Check-In point will be at an open ski area/vacant land space called Braentbergsbacken.
~ Step 2: Once every team has checked in, a member from each team will be driven out to the midpoint of the trail where they will be the ones ending the race.
~ Step 3: An hour after one team member was taken to the midpoint of the trail, the race will begin and the people who will compete in the second half of the race will be expected to be ready once it's their turn to sled with the dogs.
~ Step 4: Since it's a relay race (and there is only one trail to be used), once the second member begins sledding with the dogs, the same cars that dropped off player 2s at the midpoint will pickup player 1s and drive them to Saevar (where the race will end and they can cheer on their teammates).
~ Step 5: The race is finished when the first dogs of each team have taken their first step on the campgrounds in Saevar called Saevar Rastplats. The teams that came in first, second, and third will be awarded with medals at the campground as well.

Article Title: Sweden Has Opened All-Year-Ice Hotel, Get Ready to Be Frozen in Ice Hotel 365
By: Jacqevans

*The main point of this article is that after so long of putting maintenance on a building that is made of nothing but snow and ice, the Ice Hotel 365 can now officially stay open for a full year. The hotel is located in a city called Jukkasjaervi (200 km. north of the Arctic Circle). Of course, during the winter and summer too, the hotel has to stay cold so that it doesn't melt but is quite a success after so much hard work being put into it. The hotel is currently -5 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit). The hotel includes a bar, a sauna (somehow), only 9 or 10 luxury suites, but is also a great place to stay to witness a midnight sun or even the northern lights. The hotel may be as expensive as $1,000 per night but seems to be suddenly popular.
*I think it's great that Sweden finally had this accomplishment to make a special hotel like this and have the advantage to keep it open for a longer time than it has been open in the past. I'm surprised that the hotel is not only very cold, but very expensive to stay at but seems to fit the expectations for any visitor. Despite the price, however, I'd be willing to stay over for a night to see what it's like (I, honestly, would find enjoyment with the cold temperature).
*As said many times this is a great success for Sweden because it's perfect for their culture. The climate in Scandinavia is very cold that any activity or event involving cold weather is just the "norm". Even though it's doubtful that the typical Swedish person lives in an igloo or some building made completely out of snow and ice, it's neat that a hotel can be made like an igloo and it still allows people who stay over to get a glance at northern lights and/or a midnight sun which would probably often be found in the country.

Urban Geography
*Largest Cities:
1. Stockholm(, Stockholm)
2. Gothenburg(, Vaestra Goetaland)
3. Malmo(, Skåne)
4. Uppsala(, Uppsala)
5. Sollentuna(, Stockholm)
*Stockholm = 1,515,017 inhabitants.
*Rank Size Rule (Estimated City Populations):
~ Gothenburg
+ 1,515,017/2 => 757,508 people
~ Malmo
+ 1,515,017/3 => 505,005 people
~ Uppsala
+ 1,515,017/4 => 378,754 people
~ Sollentuna
+ 1,515,017/5 => 303,003 people
*Actual City Populations:
~ Gothenburg = 572,799 inhabitants.
~ Malmo = 301,706 inhabitants.
~ Uppsala = 149,245 inhabitants.
~ Sollentuna = 139,606 inhabitants.
*In Sweden's case, the Rank Size Rule is invalid. The actual populations of cities such as Gothenburg and Malmo have pretty close sizes to those of the Rank Size Rule populations but are still less populated than estimated. Uppsala, on the other hand, is nearly half of Malmo's (#3) population and with Sollentuna being even smaller, the Rank Size Rule is definitely not accurate for this country. The main reason why the Rank Size Rule probably doesn't work for Sweden is because of the fact that Stockholm is such a huge and well-known global city, many immigrants would be more likely to travel to that place than to Gothenburg, Malmo, Uppsala, and Sollentuna - thus, making Stockholm way more populous than the other four.
*Sweden's Population: 9,880,604 people.
