Basic Information
*Located at 1600 S, 1670 E.
*Land Area = 12,189 sq. km.
*Water Area = 0 sq. km.
*Total Area = 12,189 sq. km.
*Total Coastline = 2,528 km.
Additional Information
*Vanuatu is little larger than the U.S. state of Connecticut.
*Vanuatu is located in Oceania and is composed of a main island with nearly 20 other tiny islands on the Eastern and Southern sides of the mainland. Vanuatu is North of New Caledonia, Northwest of Fiji, Southeast of the Solomon Islands, and even about 1,000 miles (1,609 km.) Northeast of Australia.
*Since the country isn't directly connected to other countries, there are no land borders present.
Climate
*Vanuatu has a tropical climate. It originally is hot and moist in a tropical climate, but because of the Southeast Trade Winds that occur from May to October, the climate is not too hot (and, of course, not too cold) year-round. Between November and April, however, moderate rainfall occurs. In addition, cyclones can have an impact on the country between December and April because of it's location in the ocean and thus, its climate.
Terrain
*Vanuatu has mostly mountainous islands because volcanoes used to dominate most of the area on the islands of the country. Since the inlands are mostly mountainous, the coastal plains are very narrow.
*The Pacific Ocean has the lowest elevation at 0 Meters while Tabwemasama has the highest elevation at 1,877 Meters.

Since no Demographic Transition Model was available, it is estimated that Vanuatu is in stage 3 of the Demographic Transition Model with the graphs showing the birth rate and death rate above. It would be stage 3 because the birth rate increased between 2012 and 2013 but then began to decline right after the rapid increase while the death rate declined between 2012 and 2013 and then showed no increase or decrease right after. Since Vanuatu is in stage 3, the country probably has decent healthcare, acceptable amounts of clean water and sanitation, but children are more likely to die than if Vanuatu were in stage 4 or stage 5.

The Amazing Race
![Picture](/uploads/9/2/3/6/92365300/published/amazin-race_2.png?250)
*This activity will be a scuba-diving adventure/competition in middle July between the main island of Vanuatu and the island Aore.
*This race will be a Roadblock because it is one individual.
~ Step 1: Pre-registered members from Australia, New Zealand, other islands in Oceania, North America and South America will arrive at the Santo-Pekoa International Airport in the city of Luganville (in Southern Vanuatu of the main island).
~ Step 2: A shuttle is provided for everybody that will take them to the Beachfront Resort from the airport.
~ Step 3: Once everyone is at the Beachfront Resort, everyone will be checked in and then will change into a scuba-diving outfit which they can be provided with at the resort if they misleft their own uniform.
~ Step 4: Everyone will be provided with a camera after they have their uniforms on.
~ Step 5: Once everyone has changed and has a camera, everyone will be escorted to the Coral Sea by ATV.
~ Step 6: From 1 P.M. to 1:30 P.M., everyone will try to find as many different wildlife species as they can and get a clear photo of them.
~ Step 7: By 1:31 P.M. everyone should be out of the water, the ATVs that brought them to the Coral Sea will take them back to the Resort and there, three judges will take everyone's camera and figure out who had pictures of the most species. The first three winners will be given prizes.

*Title of Article: Water quality concerns around Vanuatu river
*Author: Radio New Zealand (Author, otherwise, unknown)
*Date: January 13th, 2017.
*http://www.radionz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/322284/water-quality-concerns-around-vanuatu-river
*A witness claimed that a river had been polluted because of seeing dead fish floating at the top of the water. No one knows for sure how it got polluted but investigators believe that someone spilt a chemical into it. The river is very important for the nearby community because the water is used for washing bathing and cooking purposes.
*I believe that any kind of pollution is one of the worst things that could happen in a country. Pollution hurts wildlife and affects people as well. Generally, when one thing is polluted, other things in nature are likely to be harmed as well. That being said, I'm just completely against pollution and I feel bad for the people in the community who probably bathed (and hopefully, not cooked) with unsanitary water.
*This affects the culture in Vanuatu because not only does pollution just generally hurt anyone, it especially hurts people in more developing countries who depend on a lot of resources directly from the physical environment. It's a good thing that the water is drank by any of the people, but it still harmed wildlife diversity and has the potential to continue harming more of the environment.

Urban Geography
*Largest Cities in Vanuatu:
1. Port Vila(, Shefa)
2. Luganville(, Sanma)
3. Norsup(, Malampa)
4. Port-Olry(, Sanma)
5. Isangel(, Tafea)
*Population of Port Vila: 35,901 inhabitants.
*Rank-Size Rule (Estimated City Populations):
~ Luganville
+ 35,901/2 => 17,950 people.
~ Norsup
+ 35,901/3 => 11,967 people.
~ Port-Olry
+ 35,901/4 => 8,975 people.
~Isangel
+ 35,901/5 => 7,180 people.
*Actual City Populations:
~ Luganville => 13,397 inhabitants.
~ Norsup => 2,998 inhabitants.
~ Port-Olry => 1,951 inhabitants.

*The Rank-Size Rule is close with the estimation of Luganville (#2), but still would be mostly invalid for Vanuatu. Norsup, Port-Olry, and Isangel are actually more than sixteen times less populated than Port Vila and thus, the Rank-Size Rule estimations are completely off. Just like Palau, Vanuatu is a small country so that more people are probably more likely to live in one city than be scattered around the island.
